What is BookCircle?
BookCircle is a community book marketplace where you buy books by the chapter and own them forever.
- No subscription. You don't rent access — everything you buy is yours to keep, permanently.
- Try before you buy. Read the first chapter of any book free.
- Pay for what you want. Buy a single chapter for a little, or the whole book at once.
- Support authors directly. Most of what you pay goes straight to the author.
1Getting started
- Browse the catalog or search by title right from the homepage.
- Read Chapter 1 free on any book — no account needed to sample.
- Create an account when you want to buy and keep a library. Your account stores your purchases and syncs your reading progress across devices.
2Buying chapters & books
- Single chapter or whole book. On a book's page, buy one chapter at a time or the entire book in one purchase.
- Buy in order. Paid chapters unlock sequentially — you buy them in order rather than jumping ahead. (Free-preview chapters are always open.)
- Promo codes. Have a code from an author or promotion? Enter it at checkout for your discount.
- Own it forever. Once you buy a chapter or book, it stays in your library permanently — no expiry, no subscription.
Payment. Pay by card (via Stripe) or with PayPal at checkout — secured with 256-bit SSL and PCI-DSS compliant.
Refunds. Because books are delivered digitally and are available immediately, all sales are final except in specific cases (for example, if the content was materially different from its description). To request a refund in those cases, email us within 7 days of purchase with your order reference. See the Refund Policy in the site Terms for full details.
3Reading your book
Open any book you own (or a free preview) in the BookCircle reader. Everything below is on the reader toolbar.
Reading views
- Page view — the standard reading view. Any chapter you buy is read here.
- Flipbook — when you own the full book, you unlock a two-page, page-turning flipbook on desktop that reads like a real book. (Individual chapter purchases read in page view.)
- Font size — bigger or smaller with A− / A+.
- Themes — switch the reading colours between Paper, Sepia, and Night with the ◐ button in the toolbar; your choice is remembered.
- Fullscreen for distraction-free reading.
Getting around
- Table of contents — jump to any chapter.
- Bookmarks — save your place; your position also syncs across devices automatically.
- Notes / highlights — mark and annotate passages.
- Search inside the book — find a word or phrase.
Languages
Switch reading language from the toolbar (e.g. EN ▾) when an author has provided translations.
Listen along (audio narration)
Books with narration let you play the audio and follow along as the words highlight in time. Choose a narrator voice (e.g. Charlotte or Jon), adjust speed and volume, and toggle Follow to keep the page in sync. (Audio is available for English.)
Take it with you
Download your purchased book as an EPUB or PDF from the reader. These are standard formats you can open on any device or app that supports them — e-readers, tablets, phones, and computers. Your download includes the chapters you own (and any free previews).
4Your library
- Everything you've bought lives in My Library — open any title to keep reading.
- Reading progress syncs across your devices, so you can pick up where you left off.
- Read in the web reader on any modern browser — phone, tablet, or computer — or install BookCircle to your phone's home screen ("Add to Home Screen") for an app-like experience (no app store needed).
5Community
- Discuss chapters with other readers right from the reader.
- Reviews & threads — share what you thought and see what others are reading.
- Newsletter — subscribe from the homepage for new releases and updates.
6Your account
- Profile — manage your details.
- Two-factor authentication (2FA) — add an extra layer of security.
- Password reset — recover access if you forget your password.

Do I keep what I buy?
Yes — every chapter and book you buy is yours forever. No subscription, nothing expires.
Can I read a book before paying?
Yes. The first chapter of every book is free.
Do I have to buy the whole book?
No. Buy a single chapter or the whole book — your choice. Paid chapters are purchased in order.
What devices can I read on?
Read in the web reader on any modern browser — phone, tablet, or computer — and install it to your phone's home screen if you like. Your EPUB and PDF downloads also open in any e-reader or app that supports those formats. Your reading progress syncs across devices.
What's the difference between buying chapters and the whole book?
Either way you own what you buy forever. Chapters you buy individually are read in page view; owning the full book also unlocks the two-page flipbook on desktop.
Can I get a refund?
Digital purchases are final, but refunds are available in specific cases (e.g. the content was materially different from its description) if you email us within 7 days. See the Refund Policy in the Terms.
